I am always interested in playing new jrpg, especially if from the 90s and especially if from Squaresoft.
I was not sure what to expect from Romancing SaGa 2, I had never played any of the SaGa games and I must admit that I never expected something so innovative in a game of 93.
The first approach to the game was a mix of confusion about the mechanics and frustration of the seemingly uncontrollable difficulty.
At a certain point in the story, when in order to advance I had to defeat one of the 7 heroes, I was about to drop the game due to its difficulty, but by reading different online guides and planning strategies and characters builds I managed easily to get to the final boss.
The final boss was another stumbling block, but after a 90's jrpg-style training he was defeated too.
I felt a great satisfaction finishing the game, because its difficulty requires strategy and planning, besides the mechanics of inheritance of the abilities and stats, the management of the kingdom, the open quests; they are all mechanics so innovative for his time that they literally left me speechless.
Also Tomomi Kobayashi's game artworks are wonderful, for this drawing I took a little bit from her illustrations and ( the beautiful ) game sprites.
Unfortunately from now on I will use very invasive watermarks on my artwork, because I have found my drawings stolen on RedBubble.
As usual, you can find the illustration on my redBubble and Teepublic stores:
